10/17/05....The
LCYC Fall Annual meeting was held on Saturday at the conclusion
of a rather cool, soggy workday. At the meeting, the proposed
Bylaws change to create a 14th Board member responsible for
Boating/Cruising programs was approved. In addition, the nominees
for Commodore (Charlie Lord), Board of Governors (Dot Hill, Don
Rathbone, Steve Booth, Ted Lattrell and John O'Rourke), Treasurer
(Steve Walkerman) and Auditors (Don O/Brien, Greg Doremus, Peter
Phillips) were all elected unanimously. Congratulations and thanks
to these folks for volunteering to serve the club in this way.
Lastly, thanks to all of those who came out for workday and
especially the hardy ones who stuck it out until the end. As
usual, St. Pierre's chili and cornbread was worth waiting for.
P.S. There are still some jobs
left to do (including the removal of the awnings if we ever get a
dry spell), so contact Gene Cloutier (workday coordinator) or Bob
Turnau (House chair) if you missed workday and can help out.

regattas of its kind in the world with the total number of boats
approaching 500 and 240 boats in the Laser Radial and Laser Full
Rig Fleets alone. The wind conditions over the 5 days included
everything from 20+ to light and shifty...and everything in
between. MBBC's Peter Hazelett also finished 28th in the Radial
Silver Fleet and the old man (aka the Commodore) finished 21st out
of 51 boats in the Laser Full Rig Silver fleet.

8/26/05....State
Police Warning - A recent Marine Patrol inspection of
our moored boats yielded a list of about 20 boats without proper
state registration or state validation stickers for documented
boats. This list is posted at the club. The police intended to
stop boats this past Wednesday but since we were being filmed by
VPT they held off thanks to a request by Tony Lamb. Next week
could be the time so be warned - get your boat legal and avoid
a ticket.
8/25/05....Sailing
Sailing....a beautiful night to be sailing....The wind gods were
with us as C4 was a spectacular night to be sailing in Vermont! The
planets and stars all lined up to serve up wind, sunshine, gorgeous
early fall lighting and of course the brilliant colors of 44 boats
dotting Shelburne Bay. VPT got some great shots. Watch for it to air
sometime after the first of the year. It'll be posted here.
8/21/05....It
was a real sailors day....a steady 18-22 knots of breeze with
gusts to 30 ! 11 double handed teams went out, 11 finished and in
the end the team of Stevens and Besse took the honors overall.

Boat to be named the J. Dinse..After much deliberation and
review of the many great submissions from LCYC members, the BOG has
decided on naming the new RC boat after John Dinse, current member
of the club. The “J. DINSE” will help us remember John's many
contributions to the club, most notable of which the driving force
in the purchase of the land which we all hold so dearly today and
past commodore. It’s an honor to place his name on the transom for
all to think about as the saga of the club moves on. While the name
will go on shortly, there will be a short naming ceremony coming in
the fall when all the folks involved can be brought together at the
club.

Area A championship results..
LCYC Sailor Brad Harris finished
3rd in a very strong Area A fleet behind Thomas Barrows (St Thomas
USVI, Eastern Yacht Club) and Michael Easton (Portland ME, Portland
YC). In a light air regatta sailed Thursday and Friday in
Marblehead, 5 races were sailed with one throw out. Barrows was
first with 7 pts, Easton second with 8 pts and Harris third with 12
pts, with finishes of 4, 1, 4, (5), 3. Barrows and Easton are
arguably amongst the very best Junior Laser sailors in the country
having finished 2nd and 3rd respectively in last year's Smythe
National Championships and Barrows having won the US Youth Laser
Championship earlier this summer. Barrows and Easton move on to
the national championship.

regatta folks all made for a busy enjoyable event. The Board of
Governors thanks all who contributed to this ever growing

the Northeast Sailing Association Championship behind Michael
Easton (177370) of Portland YC. Brad (12 pts) and Michael (9
pts) dominated the light air regatta finishing 1, 2 in all 7
races. The Area A regatta will be held this coming Thursday
and Friday at Eastern YC in Marblehead, MA. The top 2 finishers

7/18/05....The
second running of the LCYC Finn Regatta was held in near
perfect conditions at LCYC on July 16-17 with 14 boats
participating. Participants came from Montreal, Ottawa,
Massachusetts and New York. Winds for the first day were 5-10
knots, and the second day's winds were 10-15 with an occasional
higher gust. The 14-boat fleet fit in seven races, four the
first day and three the second. Although the top two boats were
well out from the rest of the fleet in total points, only three
points separated 3rd place from 6th place, with LCYC's Dave
Powlison finishing sixth. LCYC's Rick Howell also participated,
finishing 10th. The fleet enjoyed a catered dinner on Saturday
night, and to maximize racing time, lunches were served on the
water each day. Special thanks go to PRO Bob Goodwin, who was
assisted over the course of the two-day event by Hal Greig,
Bette Reuter, Ernie Reuter, Meredith Powlison, Alec Antel, John
Kwiatkowski, Brad Harris and Patrick Healy. Denny Bowen helped
coordinate the Saturday dinner, provided by St. Pierre's
catering, and Lisa Powlison dealt with the on-the-water lunch
arrangements. We received excellent feedback from competitors
on every aspect of the event.

Finn sailors enjoyed a perfect day--sunny skies and 5-10
knot winds--for a clinic on Finn sailing, run by James Lyne, who
coached the US Olympic representative in Finns at the Athens
game. After some mast tuning ashore, the fleet sailed a dozen
or so practice races, which James videotaped. That afternoon,
the fleet looked at the videotapes and listened to James
critique what he saw on the water. The clinic received rave
reviews from the participants.

7/13/05....LCYC's
junior sailors Meredith Powlison and Kate Weaver finished 5th
in the NSA Bemis Championship, held in Kennebunkport, ME on July
11. Although the top two teams clearly dominated the fleet, the
next three places were close, with Meredith and Kate just three
points out of third. The top three teams advanced to the Area A
Bemis Championship, to be held later in July in Marblehead, MA.
The event was held in 420
dinghies, in sheltered water, but in winds that averaged in the
high teens with occasional gusts to around 25. Meredith and
Kate's best finishes in the 7-race series were a second and a pair
of thirds. They were one of two all-girl teams participating in
the event. The other team finished 8th. Meredith and Kate
qualified for this event by finishing second in the NSA West Bemis
Championship.

6/20/05....Reminder:
Per Club rules all Dinghies on the docks MUST be secured
with a stern anchor and be clearly labeled with the owner's name
and/or mooring number. This insures that you are not damaging your
neighbors' dinghies (or your own), are not occupying more than the
allocated space on the dock and that the Stewards can contact you if
there is a problem with your dinghy. As of Sunday, there were
numerous dinghies which were not properly secured, few that were
labeled and several that were in various states of disrepair (e.g.
partially deflated inflatables). Effective Sunday June 26th, the
Stewards will be authorized to remove any improperly secured or
deflated dinghies from the docks to the beach area at the club. If
you have not already done so, please get your dinghy labeled and
properly secured ASAP.

These photos show club members, who on Saturday, May 7th, installed
the club's awnings and rewired and re-plumbed the docks. Keep an eye

Awning goes up in perfect conditions...from Bette Reuter. I
want to thank everyone so much for joining me to put up the East and
South awnings yesterday. We could not have picked a finer day to do
it -- no wind and mostly sunny skies (unlike Sunday the 8th). It
really helped to have a relief team: Mike and Laura Dunphy who
stepped in after Bob and Mark had to leave. Young Jack even pitched
in, but was happiest when we were done. We wrapped up just after
2pm; not quite as fast as the prior teams that include Ernie. But we
figured it out and got it done....FYI, Ernie will hang the corner
piece when he returns this week. Thank-you all, and a round of
applause to the core team of Mark Sperry, Bob Turnau, Bob Platt,
Judy Bond, Joss & Jack Besse and myself.
5/6/05....Name
the new RC boat....put on your thinking caps and help us to name
the RC boat. We'll be bringing her down from Mallets Bay next
week and she will be put on a mooring until the docks are in on
Saturday. Late in the morning, we'll bring her into the dock for the
first look see. Be creative and put your suggestion into the box at
the top of the steps. The Board will then pick out the 5 most
popular and make the decision.
5/3/05....To
All Docks Heroes....On Saturday, May 7th, at 9:00 am, there will
be another opportunity to join with other selected LCYC members to
get the docks ready for Workday installation. The morning work party
will finish the wiring and installation of the water/power/lighting
kiosks. Under the stewardship of our genial leader, David Kelton, a
satisfying productive time is anticipated. This is possibly the last
chance to substitute for the official Workday obligation. Please
email Mike Barker if you plan to avail yourself of this rare
opportunity. MIKE
