2005 Lake Champlain Yacht Club Cruise Calendar
Still Cruising after all of these years! Our theme song for the 2005 cruise season! Most of us can relate to that song! Last year we started our rendezvous season with a joint cruise with the Malletts Bay Boat Club (MBBC). We have been invited to join again this year and so will again start our first get together with our new friends. In fact we have been invited to join all of the MBBC cruise events. You can find them by going to LCYC home page and clicking on the link to MBBC. Everyone told me they had a great time during the Valcour cruise and that Richard Villamil’s description of the plants and the geological features was fascinating. So I encourage you join us again this year for another tour.
Also we will continue our now famous Champagne Race to Willsboro Bay! There will be some minor changes this year with the race. First we will have a multi-class race for Spinnaker and JAM fleet. Trophies will be awarded for each! There will also be other types of awards given out for placement in various categories (that I’ve yet to make up).
In addition we will incorporate a new race, the “Shelburne Bay Beer Race “ In case you haven’t figured it out by now, cruisers will only race for Champagne or Beer! Why Shelburne Bay? In the September time frame we may or may not have good weather, plus we are also planning a cookout at the club. But most of all this will give those of you without an overnight cruise boat the opportunity to cavort with your follow club members. This will also be a multi class race so the entire fleet can participate! During our post race shore cookout we will award trophies for various cruise activities during the year.
Please join us this year as we start the new cruise season!
By the way the first LCYC “Impromptu rendezvous” has already taken place!
A three boat, LCYC March rendezvous in Pelican Bay off Cayo Costa State Park in Florida. Cayo Costa is an island just south of the Charlotte Harbor entrance. The LCYC members were Shell and Penny Reiley, Bob and Libbi Bergman, and Lynnea and Leonard Rosner. Mike and Page Caldwell were also in Pelican Bay as guests on a friend's boat and came by in a dinghy to say hello.

Valcour 6/18/2004- 6/19/2004
Wildflower Cruise
We will join Richard Villamil and others from MBBC as they investigate the natural history of Valcour Island including the spring wildflowers. This year's itinerary includes investigation of the glacier's legacy in the Champlain Valley as well as selected wild orchids in bloom. In the past they have found the yellow ladies slipper, ram's head orchid, jack-in-the-pulpit, moccasin flower and other rare and unusual flowers. This year, we may even find some new additions to our growing list of wildflowers.
MBBC will plan on monitoring channel nine. Hike to start at 1400 (2:00 PM for the rest of us) and cocktail/hors d'ouvers at 1730 (5:30PM). Plan on star gazing after evening cocktails. Individual departures on Sunday after breakfast - or a second morning walk on the island. Bring your dinghy, field guides to the stars, wildflowers and mushrooms, insect repellent, walking shoes, cameras, and binoculars and a snack to share at our social hour/party after the Saturday walk. See you there!
Fireworks / Rendezvous 7/3/2004

We will again have the Champagne Race to Willsboro Bay where the winner will receive Champagne. Other prizes will also be awarded. We will have an award ceremony on shore followed by a cookout. Other prizes will also be awarded followed by a Cookout hosted by Dave & Pat Kelton. Cookout about 1730, bring hors d'oeuvre to share as usual. We will anchor near the boat ramp same as last year. Race instructions will be handed out the morning of the race.
Shelburne Bay Beer Race 9/10/2005
In case you have not figured it our by now, cruisers will only race for Champagne or Beer!
Impromptu rendezvous All Summer
The above scheduled rendezvous are always a good time! As many cruisers also race I have done my best to avoid most of the races so all can participate in the rendezvous. However, because of weather and other factors they don’t always happen. It has also been my experience that some of the impromptu rendezvous have been the best. Mostly due to ideal weather conditions everyone’s out for the weekend. So, I will post a destination on the board at the club when I know we have two or three boats headed to the same anchorage. Please join us! As always I will be monitoring channel 9.
